BENDING THE RULES IN OREGON
Dana MacKenzie is one of the artists who designs our Tony Hawk HuckJam Series skateboards. Dana lives in the Bend, Oregon area and they are trying to put together their own funds to build a skatepark without going through the city. Just taking care of business and doing it themselves. This past weekend they raised a ton of dough auctioning some really nice, hand painted skateboard decks by some of the local talent. They'll be doing it again, so stay tuned for info on the next one. TONY'S FLIGHT MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING
Tony, along with family members, Todd Richards, Rooftop and more, had a scare last night. They were all on Flight 811 that made an emergency landing at LAX last night. After recognizing a fuel transfer problem, the flight turned around, then had to circle for three hours before making a hard landing with ambulances and firetrucks waiting. Rooftop tells a much more colorful story on his blog, which you can read by clicking the button. We're all glad that everyone is safe and okay.

Speaking of shredordie: we have two contests going on where you can win tons of free stuff. The opening of the Wasatch County Skatepark in Heber City, Utah on July 28, 2008, marked the 300th public skatepark to open that received financial assistance from the Tony Hawk Foundation. Since 2002, the Foundation has been helping low-income communities develop free public skateparks, and to-date has awarded almost 400 grants to help pay for their construction, including the $5,000 grant to Wasatch County in 2007. RAY UNDERHILL AUCTION RAISES OVER $47,000
The skate community has come through in an unprecedented way to help one of our own. As you may know by now, Tony's good friend and one of the most respected skaters of all time, Ray Underhill, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. To help Ray and his family with overwhelming expenses, a dinner and an eBay auction of amazing skate items were organized. The dinner raised over $10,000 and, in an incredible show of support, the auction raised over $47,000! After eBay fees are subtracted, 100% of the remaining total will go directly to Ray and his family. Thanks to everyone who put in their time and effort to make this happen, but especially to, Sean Mortimer, Miki Vuckovich from the Tony Hawk Foundation, Mike Rogers and the amazing folks at Grind For Life, and the folks at Creative Deployment.

SIX FLAGS HELPS BUILD LOCAL SKATE PARK
Six Flags St. Louis is kicking in 50 cents for every ticket it sells to it's latest attraction, Tony Hawk's Big Spin roller coaster, to help build a publicly funded skatepark at Sylvan Springs Park in St. Louis. The 20,000 square-foot skatepark was designed by local skaters in conjunction with the St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation and will be built in two phases, with the first phase beginning next week and the final phase being completed in 2008.

Skaters For Public Skateparks has collaborated with the Tony Hawk Foundation and the International Association of Skateboard Companies to create the Pubic Skatepark Development Guide, a fully fleshed-out skatepark how-to book for anyone interested in campaigning for a skateboard park in their community. Written by SFPS Publishing Director Peter Whitley, this step-by-step guide takes you from start to finish, detailing everything from how to determine a community’s skatepark needs to the strategic nuances of advocacy to fundraising, design, and management. TONY HELPS RAISE $160,000
Each year, the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix (wow, that's a mouthful) holds a huge charity event called Celebrity Fight Night. It's one of the biggest, star-studded charity events of the year and has raised over $38 million so far to help in the fight against Parkinsons disease. This year two lucky winners bid $80,000 each to spend the afternoon with Tony having lunch at the Hawk Headquarters with a private skate demo and more. The proceeds were split with the MAPRC and the Tony Hawk Foundation. The overall amount of money raised from this year's event has not been announced yet.

CLASH AT CLAIREMONT
Tony skated the Clash At Clairemont demo at the Krause Family YMCA Skatepark (a.k.a. Clairemont) in San Diego to help raise funds for the nonprofit skatepark and for Grind For Life, an organization dedicated to assisting cancer patients. The demo started on the park's new vert ramp, which many observers will recognize from the X Games, and included several other skate and BMX pros: Bucky Lasek, Bob Burnquist, Andy Macdonald, Pierre Luc Gagnon, Kevin Staab, Mike Crum, Buster Halterman, Max Dufour, Lincoln Ueda, Lester Kasai, Danny Mayer, Kevin Robinson, Jamie Bestwick, Dennis McCoy, and others. The thousand or so specators were later treated to a pool session while skate-rock originals Agent Orange performed.
Over $20,000 were raised through donations and raffle proceeds.
